jacket: vintage, shirt: forever 21, BABOOSHKA, cross necklace: flea market in Nicaragua, stone necklace: city fair

I recently found this leather jacket in one of my favorite vintage stores near my house and for only $40, which is quite a steal since it's real leather. I love everything about it from the color to the fit and what's even cooler is that I found a letter in the pocket addressed from a daughter to her mother in 1980. It was an interesting read to say in the least.

Yes, I am alive

As you can see, I have not posted anything for over a long amount of time now and I must apologize for this inconvenience with a reasonable explanation for it. My life at this very moment and time has been flourishing into a crazy plethora of events. Since it is my senior year of high school after all, I have had to make major decisions such as choosing an actual college and what I actually plan to do for the rest of my life... Nothing big really. I have found that my time has been occupied with school events and many hours spent on the computer filling out college applications, go figure. Recently, I traveled to the country of Nicaragua on a missions trip and practically lived there for a small amount of time. I have found that it had become my home and although I have returned to the lovely state of California, I miss the culture and the people there tremendously and plan on returning there in the near future.
On a fashionable note, I have discovered that my taste and opinions in fashion have indeed changed. I've grown up, in a way, and I've found what I truly like and dislike and I've stuck with it. Let's just say I've grown to know myself even better over the long period of time you hadn't heard from me and yes, I did get a little personal there and I am stepping off my soap box as of right now. So, because of sheer boredom, the need to release some creative juices, and my infinite love for blogging; I am now returning to The Whispering Swallow. The old posts you have seen are a thing of the past and the new posts you will continue to see is the raw account of just me, my clothes, and what my camera happens to take photos of.

Here we go....

Hello Again

Hello again!

I would just like to apologize for my EXTREME lack of posts. This is what happens when life and computer malfunctions and absolutely no free time happens on a regular basis. I, once again, sincerely apologize. Now that I'm done with the college course from Hades, my life is now worry free (and stress free if I might add). But, the couple high lights of this lovely summer are ones that I would love to share with you.

I have fallen in love... with yoga and pilates. If any of you have taken a class and experienced the gratification of taking one, I applaud you. Yoga is such a serene environment where I can wind down and let my mind go and relax while sweating my behind off at the same time. A dear friend of mine has recently taken me to a Pilates Reform class and I thank her from the bottom of my heart! That was the most amazing and self gratifying work out class I have ever taken. Even in the midst of the muscle aching stretches and reps, I loved every single second of it. I felt so incredibly amazing afterwards that I cannot wait for my next session. If any of you lovely readers ever have the sudden urge or interest in taking a pilates of yoga class, sign up right away and take one! I guarantee that you won't regret it. And plus, the very first yoga or pilates class that you take is usually free. How can you not resist?

Second of all, drive in's are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can't believe I have never gone to one. I had the greatest time with one of my best friends and his family running around our cars and shoveling down one decadent candy bar after the other. The friendly, family environment has to be one of the reasons why, even after the 50's, these incredible places are still around. (Even though drive in's in the 50's were stereotyped for one thing only...) But that is besides the point.

I promise that I will keep up with posts from now on now that I have my new found freedom! I hope all of you are having a fantastic summer, as I'm sure you are. So I will leave you with this question....

What has been the most amazing experience you've had this summer?

xoxo Kayla

Today has not been a good day. I woke up after a late night of studying for finals and immediately ran to the bathroom and spent half of that morning with the 'porcelain throne', if you know what I mean... After some recovering, I went to school and took my finals for the day. First day accomplished, two more days of finals to go!

Anyway, how are you guys doing? :) Now about this outfit, I had this jacket from Ann Taylor in the back of my closet for a while and I forgot how much I loved it. Especially the structure. This necklace I've had for a while from Urban Outfitters is one of my favorites. It's made out of pink, soft fabric and decorated with a gold chain and studs. Chic yet edgy. Hope you enjoy, and I love hearing your guys comments :) they make my day!
